Something has really been bugging me lately. Why do people go to Governor's School that don't like being here? This question puzzles me. , but after Ropes it is obvious that there isn't much better chance for that here than say an IB program at your old school. If you aren't having fun, why not just go home? I guess no one wants to be "quitter." Parents are weird about forcing you to do stuff. Still, I'm here because I like it here. Old man Caffee can try to kick me out, but he'd need a crowbar to keep me away. This place is fun, start to finish. Rules, Schmules. Homework, Schmomework. None of the old rules are that unreasonable. By any measure they have to require us in the building at some time or another, 10:30 is too early, but you'll live. Lights out is a joke. Signing out is a joke. 8 o'clocks -- joke. PDA -- joke. Room inspection -- hilarious. The list goes on. The door thing is Coker's problem. The fire stuff is Derrick's attempt to follow the law (dumb laws, but she feels the need to enforce it for some reason). If you can't put up with these rules, sparingly enforced, then there are probably no rules that would suit you. It is just the facts of life. Still the sparse enforcement is annoying, because some are punished for doing the same as everybody else. The erratic enforcement of some rules (such as say… level three's for stealing…) that is my main complaint with admin. Altogether this place is great. Live in friends can kick friends-with-cars-going-from-the-movies-to-the-mall-to-wherever's butt any day. I love knowing 180 students personally (counting alumni). I remember about twenty people from my old school and care about none. I love boring weekends with absolutely nothing to do. The boredom is glorious. "Entertain me." And no one can. So it is. I love the mind melt. I love freaking out. I like fighting Ellis. (He's so weak. Ha! ha!) I love the meaningless clubs (DHS, Order of the Spike, etc.). I love the insanity (Omega Egg v. Devil Egg anyone?). I love how in the spring for one week the mother tree has helicopters. I love how the beech trees never seem to run out of leaves to drop. I love dancing. I love doing the robot. So just remember FA as needed-- don't let them run over us-- but come on people look around and enjoy what a great thing we have here.
