Ms. North Not A Teacher GSSM student Conner Chilton was excited about taking an independent study course of his own design. It was in his favorite subject, psychology. Everything was going swimmingly. Swimmingly, that is, until it was rejected (of course) by Admin. Originally, he was to complete an advanced psychology course under counselor and resident shrink Ms. North. North, who teaches Life and Leisure classes for the juniors, had her request denied by Admin staff on grounds that she was "not a teacher." Following her course request, Ms. North recieved an e-mail in her box explaining how her Ed.S does not, in fact, constitute a teaching degree. Specifically, she is "staff, not faculty," and thus may not teach an independent student psychology course. Instead, she will be confined to teaching Life and Leisure, which is totally different since it is a self-help psychology course. This little conundrum puts Admin in the precarious position of either affirming her teacherhood or admitting that Life and Leisure isn't a real class (and that those who teach it aren't really teachers). Seeing as how it's the ResLife staff that teaches it, this author's bet is on the latter. This might result in Admin conveniently alienating ResLife. Suddenly the GSSM power structure resembles the checks and balances of the constitution... except that the third branch, the studentry, have no representation. One branch admits that the other branch performs a useless and needless duty. Suddenly the school is torn apart from the internal strife and disunity that has swelled for months. Ah, politics. I can only hope. |
