Music to me is a very useful tool for raising your spirits or even expressing certain moods. The music that I usually listen to is very clean, high-spirited stuff full of "happy thoughts." I had been asked to listen to a CD by a group called Public Enemy. When they first gave it to me to listen to it was in the morning while I was getting ready for class. It just about ruined my entire day. That type of music is very distasteful. Every other word was a cuss word. It was obviously written by some extremely adolescent male that has some sort of a "fucked" up view of the world. His outlook on the world comes out of a very materialistic way of looking at things. He can't see the real purpose in life. I would bet everything that I am worth that he is going to discover this late in life if he doesn't drug or drink himself to death. He will probably end up as a deacon in the dern Baptist Church. Shania Twain on the other hand has a very uplifting style of music that talks about everyday stuff. She focuses on women's rights with the themes of many of her songs. She has this way of touching many americans with her songs. I probably know ten newlyweds that in their marriage they sang "You're Still the One." Still even more will cry at the sound of some of her songs because they can touch on specific issues they are dealing with in their lives. Then there are others, including myself, that will pop in that tape in the car while driving somewhere and sing. I probably have every single one of her songs on her two albums memorized. |
