My roommates seem like cool guys. They’re also Atlanta students destined for Toyama. We’re a pretty hip bunch. In the computer lab yesterday, I offered my Airport Express, and now a ton of people have been using it to check email, etc. I was sitting on the hallway floor outside the room when a hotel worker came to give us all chairs and make us more presentable. That was amusing enough. Sometimes, I enjoy the adulation that comes with being “that guy who owns the internet,” but other times, I keep silent.

I finally saw Alyson today after much trying. We went out in a group and had drunken, karaoké fun. Just like old times, I guess. Those Thompson twins sure can belt though.

I bought an iSight to chat with S---. So far, it may be just one way, but I’m sure it can be fixed.

The roommates are still cool. Will is a prototypical Scotch-Irish Southerner with a red mustache and fiery personality. Andrew is more of the relaxed, Boone, hippie type, with a Japanese girlfriend to boot.

In our meetings today, we learned how to waste time making paper airplanes or something. It was pretty bad, and most advice boils down to “roll with the punches” and “play it by ear.”

I got a nice kanji pen today and sent out some postcards. I mixed up my plans for no good reason and ended up neither going out with my prefecture nor out with Alyson and the karaoké crew. That kind of sucked.

Apparently, after all the meetings I’ve been to, I somehow have been taught enough to teach Japanese children. Even after skipping a few meetings. (I’m still not sure what discipline options I have. None, likely.)

Down in the computer lab, the glory slurping for putting in the airport express continues. Today, I had to pack it up along with the rest of my stuff. I found a cardboard box on the streets of Shinjuku and filled it with books and notes from our meetings. Good thing I had some transparent duct tape to seal the box. That stuff is cool, and vaguely medical.

Tomorrow, Toyama via Haneda comes early. Sleepy time.
