If only alcohol were a vegetable, then I might have some prayer of nutrition. Got back from karaoké with T--- and the JET crew. I was the only one to sing a Japanese song, and most of the songs were delivered with a dearth of genki. I missed lunch and dinner involved what’s cheap at the Saty bakery.

Had some plans for the day.

All lost.

The ofuro is filling with water.

Sharks swim in the ocean.

Lions hunt on the plains.

Everything is a bit dodgy, but yeah.

Lately, I’ve been having garbage problems. This is partially my slobby predecessor’s fault, partially the fault of the complexity of the garbage system here, and partially my own fault. When I got rid of my predecessor’s couch, I just put it on the curb with a note that said ‘free couch’ in Japanese. A day or two later, it disappeared between trips to Saty. Next, I put a bunch of bags of old, skanky futons into the apartment’s garbage hold. Well, this caused someone to complain to my school. I got N-sensei to agree to take me to the dump to drop it off, since the pick up fee is prohibitive. Well, as we were about to go do that, we peek in the garbage hold only to find the futons had vanished mysteriously. Still, there are cups and things from my predecessor in the garbage area that I need to dispose of, but I haven’t the energy or knowledge needed to do a proper job.

When I came home this afternoon, I sat on my couch and it broke. The front right foot came free from the body. This was irksome to say the least. I tried to get help at the Saty where I bought it, but I couldn’t understand the store guy’s reply. This made me depressed and culture shocked. Also, I was tired all day from karaoké last night. There was a classical concert at the school today, and it was fairly interesting, but staying awake the whole time was a bit of a chore, since I was having trouble before I began listening to soothing, repetitive music. Anyhow, at the store I ended up volunteering N-sensei to deal with my sofa mess tomorrow, and hopefully she won’t mind. Being in Japan makes one so dependent on others…

Another day at work rushed by. Without the internet at home, I spend the whole school day surfing in circles.

After work, the new JETs from group B were greeted by a get-together at the yaki-tori place by the station. I hung out with some cool second+ year kids. They seem almost too cool for school, but we’ll see where I end up cliquéing. There are definitely some drunken bores in the group, but there are also people with a reasonable level of awesomeness potential.

Some people came to fix my couch and install a new washing machine. That went reasonably. So sleepy. JET routine, hard to preserve.
